Patient Information Leaflets (Australia)

You, your child or a member of your family is suffering from hydrocephalus.

The key treatment for hydrocephalus is a shunt, composed of a thin tube implanted in the brain to drain away the excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to another part of the body where it can be absorbed into the bloodstream, and a valve between to control the flow.

The shunt is an implantable medical device wholly introduced into the body of a human being by surgical intervention.

Patient Information Leaflets below are for you, as sources of information about the model of Sophysa valves and accessories you may have, about what may happen after the surgery and information about possible adverse events and malfunctions.

The model corresponding to you own implanted shunt is specified on your personal patient card you received from your neurosurgeon after the implantation.
