Sophy® Mini SM8 - Valve Adjustment

1 - The locator and the pressure range displayed on the locator MUST correspond to the type of valve to be adjusted.

2 - The position of the valve determines the optimum position of the patient for the adjustment.
Having valve horizontal is recommended.

3 - Position the Locator above the valve: the red arrow points in the direction of the CSF flow, the axis of the Locator is aligned with that of the valve and its central cut-out follows the shape of the valve.

4 - Position the Compass in the Locator.

5 - Adjust the position of the Locator parallel to the valve, so that the shaft of the Compass needle is centered in the white circular target. Then the Compass needle shows the pressure value.

Note the valve pressure.

6 - Without moving the Locator, remove the Compass and insert the Magnet, aligning the central mark on the Magnet on the previously identified pressure.

7 - Without moving the Locator, turn the Magnet slowly, until it exceeds the extreme (highest or lowest) position the furthest away from the initial position.

Without moving the Locator, remove the Magnet vertically and place it at least 0.5 m from the valve, then insert the Compass in the Locator. If the orientation of the Locator is correct the Compass needle points exactly to the extreme position. If this is not the case, refine the positioning of the Locator in relation to the axis of the valve by turning it slightly in the same plane as the valve until the needle is perfectly aligned with the extreme pressure value.

8 - Without moving the Locator, remove the Compass and reinsert the Magnet, with the central mark aligned with the extreme pressure value. Turn the Locator slowly until the new position chosen as the valve operating pressure is reached.

N.B. : the pressure setting is easier when it is performed clockwise. If the adjustment of the Locator position is performed in relation to Position No.8. return to Position No.1 before setting the new pressure.

9 - Without moving the Locator, remove the Magnet vertically and place it at least 0.5 m from the valve.

10 - Without moving the Locator reinsert the Compass, which must confirm that the needle is correctly centered in the circular target and is aligned with the new pressure value.
