Presentation
Founded in 1976 as a consulting firm, Sophysa
did pioneer work in the development of a new concept of
neurological
valve to treat hydrocephalus. Introduced on the market in
1984, the SOPHY®
valve was the first adjustable pressure valve in
the world, and has at last made possible non-invasive adjustment
of working pressure to match individual patients' changing
conditions.
Since then more than
60,000 Sophysa valves have been implanted throughout
the world.
In 1989, Sophysa joined the TOKIBO
Group. Administrative and sales functions are located
in Orsay, a university town south of Paris, while Production
and R&D are based in Besançon, the French capital
for micro-mechanics and horological components.
